Stephanie's post about " The Compassionate Hypocrite " on Saturday reminded me of what Catherine Friend and other " compassionate carnivores " are doing in addition to twisting the definition of compassionate beyond recognition. It's impersonal and hideously ugly and the animals suffer greatly. It's cruel. No argument here.

This is irksome, as the premise is that we need to save the animals (and which ones is an interesting discussion) because we will suffer if they are gone.

If a genetically engineered animal’s legs periodically fell off, would not its legs be more like a product of an animal (analogous to eggs) than a part of the animal?

I definitely don't think adding any more creatures of any kind to the house would be a good idea. This time of year, I worry about animals who are bought or adopted as gifts. This assumes that everyone also agrees that the animal will be part of the family for life. Not to mention young animals are far more work than seniors.
