I have now seen and photographed this species there in February of 2016, early August of 2020, and in July of 2015, 2016, 2018, and now, 2021. (In Black-chested Sparrow. And we do, in fact, have some scrawny members of the family here in Morelia, but they hardly deserve the name. Are those enough Orange-breasted Buntings ?

Except in the sad year of 2020, when Lake Cuitzeo had almost entirely dried up by January 1st.) There wasn’t much in the way of birds in the yard, maybe a Cooper’s Hawk winging through from the north, crows calling and House Sparrows chirping. Despite the gull fest down at the river, I rarely went birding on Thanksgiving Day as it was a special time reserved for the treasure of sharing good food and laughs with family.
