India was not on my list of places to go in 2016. My group, led by Rockjumper guide David Erterius, started off with a great view of this Brown Fish-Owl , perched on a low wall in a thicket of vines near the entrance to our route. Well, the Dusky Eagle-Owl was big too, but for some reason, the Fish-Owl seemed huge.

Most of these are common/abundant residential and migratory birds (and, this being Kruger, that includes five Hornbill species, four Sunbird species, a Trogon, five Owl species, and many other goodies); uncommon and striking-but-rare species are also included, so we have Storks, Martial Eagle, and Pel’s Fishing-Owl. And, heavy.).

Recently, 29 fish species of fish were recorded in this area, together with 8 amphibians, 9 reptiles and 62 species of mammals (including 20 species of bats), together with Wild Boar , Roe Deer , Wildcat , Golden Jackal , Eurasian Otter , European Pine and Beech Martens , Steppe Polecat , Stoat and the Least Weasel.

Discovered only in 2007 and photographed by Pablo Florez in 2016, in the latest field guide, the Lynx guide, this bird is literally called the “Unnamed Antshrike” (cover photo, a female by Dustin Chen). . Fish is not just prepared and spiced magnificently, but also served on banana leaves, forcing even me to photograph it.
