In early 2014 the rainfall was good and flooded the main highway south from Broome and made for some excellent birding from your car. The area remained flooded for several months in 2014 and there was significant road damage, but over the months the birding improved as more and more birds arrived in the area.

You have to look carefully, because often there are Australasian Grebes and Green Pygmy-Geese amongst the ducks and lilies. Magpie Geese , Whistling Kite and Cormorants at roost. Best Bird of the Weekend (Third of March 2014)

He was pleased to see several hundred Snow Geese at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. There are few things nicer than a big ol’ flock of Snow Geese! Corey’s Best Bird of the Weekend was actually a pretty common bird most winters in Queens, though this year they mostly went further south. How about you?

Best Bird of the Weekend (Second of March 2014)

Of the three, he decided on Pink-footed Goose over Ross’s Goose or the four Greater White-fronted Geese because, well, Pink-footed Goose is just plain awesome. Corey’s Best Bird of the Weekend was one of three great goose species he saw on Saturday during a day-long expedition in eastern Long Island. How about you?

A Great Day’s Birding in Suffolk County, New York

This past Saturday, 8 March, was perhaps the nicest day of 2014 so far in New York. Then we took a half-hour drive further east to Further Lane, where Greater White-fronted Geese appear year after year and we were not disappointed. all three of the Greater White-fronted Geese we spotted with a bunch of Canada Geese.
