I had just been to Wahner Heide (heath) a few weeks ago and covered that visit in my last post , but I found myself back in the same area with my parents for a short Sunday visit. The heath is actually quite extensive and there are some other areas that I would like to explore, but we went to the same spot we were at last time because it is easiest to reach.

The World Small Animal Veterinary Association has updated its Global Vaccination Guidelines, which became available online April 8. The updated guidelines for dogs and cats suggest the leptospirosis vaccine should be considered “core” for dogs in regions where the disease is endemic. Also, the feline leukemia virus (FeLV) vaccine is now recommended as “core” for young cats and adult cats that have outdoor access or live with other cats that have outdoor access, in places where FeLV is prevalent.

My aunt Greet gave me a book in 1975 that featured the 60 most endangered birds in Europe. Amazingly and quite contrary to what you would believe from the gloomy news most of these birds have since recovered and are doing well. Europe lost the Buttonquail (but abundant in Africa) but the Griffon, Cinereous Vulture (José Leal’s picture below) and several eagles are making a spectacular comeback.

The American Heartworm Society (AHS) published an updated version of its Canine Heartworm Guidelines on heartworm prevention, diagnosis, and treatment on April 9. The revised guidelines now recommend both Food and Drug Administration (FDA)–approved isoxazolines and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)–approved mosquito repellent products to kill mosquitoes and help prevent the spread of heartworms.

Those who read my posts regularly — and some recent comments have assured me that you are, in fact, out there — will know that in the past couple of weeks I have travelled between the two places in the world that I know best. Last week, I returned to Morelia, Mexico, my home for the past 30 years, from twelve days in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I spent my childhood and teenage years.

A couple of years ago my friend Martin Tickler called me late on a grey Sunday afternoon. “You won’t believe this, David, but there’s a flock of nine Bee-eaters sitting on the wires in the field behind my house.” Bee-eaters are one of the most colourful, and beautiful, of all European birds, but they are very scarce visitors to Britain. The prospect of seeing nine in my home county of Suffolk was irresistible.

Frankly, Ho Chi Minh City is not a place you would go to specifically for birding. But if you are there anyway (at the start of a longer birding trip) and have an afternoon to spare, then why not? Specifically, a place named Sala Township looked interesting based on a few recent eBird lists. Sala Township is a slightly weird place in that it is very close to the city center (just on the other side of the river) and partly poshly built up, partly consisting of scrubland.

Hi all. I’m in the process of designing a pet hotel in Portugal and wanted to ask whether anyone knows any good air purifiers? I’ve been doing some extensive research but it’s always best to hear from people that actually use and have them for pets. The hotel space is going to be about 1400sq ft (excluding the external area) with 6 1.5m by 3m dog rooms, 7 1.5m by 1m cat rooms and 2 2m by 2m executive cat rooms (for more than 1 cat).

I’m out camping in the woods this spring and saw plenty of vipers before the ants woke up. Now they’re nowhere to be seen. I remember reading that vipers are pretty much defenseless vs forest ants. But the ants literally cover the forest floor right now. So where have the snakes gone to avoid them? Red forest ants (Formica rufa) and adders (Vipera berus) are the animals in question.

I was watching tv in my living room when I heard a loud bang on my window. When I looked over I saw a small dark colored bird falling onto the patio outside. It was bleeding and I thought it would die, but after putting it in a box with airholes and paper towels as cushions, it eventually regained its strength and flew away. About 15 minutes later, I heard a variety of weird chirping sounds from the tree above my car, all coming from one bird in that tree.

I am from a Village in Punjab, Pakistan. This animal was attacking our neighbour's Hens. Today he killed it. I wanted to know what animal this is. Because I haven't seen it before. Wildlife is nearly non-existent in my area so I have no knowledge of it.

I don't know if I can ask questions on here, if not I'll remove it, sorry. Yesterday my dad just came into my house with a baby chick in his hands and asked mum and me to care for it for about a week or two before he would come back and take it to the farm (idk either I'm still confused, it was so random). I don't really know what to do.

I was walking my dog today when I found a dead pigeon (correct me if I’m wrong). It had no apparent bruises or wounds other than the fact that there was obviously some blood that had come from the beak. I’m just wondering what could’ve happened to make the bird bleed from its mouth and die with no larger bruises or wounds?

I’m not sure this will be allowed, but here goes. I live in the country, spend a lot of time outdoors. A few minutes ago, I heard an odd clicking noise, looked around, and a ROBIN was chasing a rabbit! The robin was clicking and jumping a few feet on the ground over the rabbit’s back, then it would fly to catch up to it. The rabbit hopped down the ravine to the woods, so I saw the event for only seconds.

His poop gets stuck in his feathers and they build up. He hasn’t drunk or eaten properly for the past two days so I tried feeding him with a syringe but i dont know if he ingested the food.

As the title says. Going to attach a picture so you can see his stature/fur/snout etc. We went a 5k today (I’m not fit I do a 5k in like 33 minutes mixing between running and walking) and he was struggling a little. He’s usually bouncing off the walls full of energy after a 5k walk but around half way through started dragging behind. He preferred running on the grass beside the pavement which I of course let him but even that didn’t seem to make him want to run towards the end.

I've had some magpies build a nest in my tree in the back garden and have been leaving them bread on my overhang roof just below my bedroom window, for a while I would come back and the bread would be gone but now I've caught them sitting and waiting for the food to arrive but as soon as they see me they fly away, just wondering how long before they will recognise me and won't fly away when I approach the window submitted by /u/No_Rhubarb_5353 [link] [comments]

So my mom works at a company that has daycare for people with Alzheimer's. They have a cat and the clients love it. Now the cat got some rotten tooth and the treatment was estimated at 200 euro by the vet, current antibiotics were around 60. If they would treat the cat, a big part of the participants budget for activities would be out. So I was wondering if anyone has any kind of experience in starting a go fund me or something to raise a little money for the cat, and if i would be even slig

Hi, my pet cat has discovered that there are lizards in our garden. I live in rural Scotland. She injured a lizard quite badly, I don’t know the extent of the damage but its tail is badly hurt (part dropped off), and on leg can’t move much. It is about four inches long, I don’t Know the exact species, I’ll attach a picture. I have given it some water, meat, a fly and a bit of apple.

Hello I recently broke up with my partner and we have two dogs together. Originally he said I take one he take one, but I countered that I don’t think it is in the dogs best interest to separate them. I would love to keep my dog but not at the expense of the other dog. What do you think? For context I also am taking my cat so it would be a cat and one dog with me, and one dog with him.

Obviously this depends on how you weight different criteria, but I'm thinking of animals that have a good combination of many different traits: agility, sprint speed, endurance, fighting ability, jumping ability, ability to swim. I'll submit the wild horse as a good candidate given this combination of features.

Chimpanzees are known to have most likely been the main cause of HIV virus in humans. My question is maybe a bit to broad, but what i want to know is, why would an animal species continually consume something unhealthy? Chimpanzees ate monkey species that had viruses they were not immune to.What is mostly the case with animals, is that they are always picky and by their own instincts determine what to and not to consume.Insects and worms will never touch a GMO fruit or food, but only natural, unp
