Penguins are, obviously, penguins, which makes them awesome. Not all birds are created equal. The Resplendent Quetzal boasts a tail so long that people travel the world to admire it. The Sword-billed Hummingbird puts its less endowed kin to shame. Central Africa has one of those birds.

Birding Cape Town

It is a good place to come down to from the city and look for Ostrich, Cape Gannets , Cape Cormorants , Cape Sparrows , Cape Buntings, Cape Sugarbirds, Cape Grassbirds and presumably lots of other birds with cape in the name. People go to Boulder’s Beach for one reason… penguins! But mostly, just drink in the penguins!

Broome to Busan

George, who is 5, said that I should be the mummy penguin and he would be the baby penguin for the weekend. I have been walking around the city since I arrived and the most common bird would appear to be sparrows! I then flew south to Sydney to have the weekend with my sister and family. Broome and Busan marked on a Google map!

As I go about any part of my life here were I’m not looking for birds I’ll never see much more than the same twenty or so birds, a decent number of which are introduced species.
