Second of all, Lewis’s Woodpeckers are birds of the west and they rarely stray to New York State. So you can imagine our disappointment when we crawled out of the car after our trip to find out that Mike was in fact relaxing in the warm kitchen and had no idea where the woodpecker was! My mother, mother-in-law, and godmother are all visiting right now. Blair Cessna Mar 17th, 2011 at 3:01 pm I do most of my birdwatching right from my computer chair looking out my den window to my back yard. Turkeys, 3 or 4 species of woodpeckers, all kinds of song birds grace our view constantly. Wicked, right?

If you dislike birdsong, maybe this is the right bulbul for you as the entry describes the species as “less vocal than most bulbuls” Unfortunately for such a pretty bird, there is almost no information on the Slaty-blue Flycatcher. The Fulvous breasted Woodpecker to me looks like a very conventional woodpecker.

Very shallow and short slalom kayaks are good if you want to explore backwaters, paddling through inundated riparian forests, left and right around the trees, or below low branches of half fallen, rotting trunks hollowed by woodpeckers. A thick-knee called from the field, hoped for Crested Owl growled from the forest, and a Barn Owl flew right overhead! The GBD is a modern birding holiday that is the perfect excuse to celebrate birds all day long.

The Golden-tailed Woodpecker shares something with the German flag – it is called golden-tailed even though to me the color of its tail is yellow, not golden. For the German flag, the “Grundgesetz” (the German basic law) states that the color of the national flag is black-red-gold.
