Part of the mitigation for the McNary Dam was the creation of McNary National Wildlife Refuge. Fish and Wildlife Service : Established in 1956, McNary NWR was created to replace wildlife habitat lost to construction of the McNary Dam downstream. According to the U.S. Plus, they offer excellent birding.

Virgina Creates Wildlife Crime Watch Program

They were all hunting associations AND the National Rifle Association. Wildlife Crime Watch" is a new program implemented by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Emphasis will be placed on wildlife and environmental issues but traditional crime prevention will also be addressed. Sounds intriguing.
