Black-throated Gray Warbler at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge

Lo-and-behold, Robin Taubman had posted images of a Black-throated Gray Warbler at Jamaica Bay! I’m not ashamed to admit that I might have left Daisy and Desi behind in my haste to see the bird, which was feeding in a juniper in nice setting sun light much the appreciation of the gathered group of (masked) birders.

One of the reasons Mexico is such a great birding area is that, while it shares all sorts of bird groups with the United States and Canada, it also is home to some of the northernmost representatives of neotropical and genera that do not (or just barely) reach that far north, such as Woodcreepers, Tityras, and Trogons.

I have seen some absolutely amazing birds at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. I can’t abide the thought of Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge without a West Pond.

I quickly reported it to the local WhatsApp group and was disheartened by a bunch of responses from other birders saying they were seeing only Razorbills.
