Here in Western NY, we suffered a 40 point swing in temperature over two days; one moment, you’re enjoying drinks by the pool and the next finds you wrapped in a shawl sipping got cocoa. I was predictably pleased to encounter a couple of Black-throated Blue Warblers as well as a Red Fox at Cobbs Hill in Rochester.

All day Friday I suffered the “Needs Alert” emails as birder after birder found the bird and reported it to eBird. Sparrows were plentiful, with Fox , Song , Swamp , and White-throated enjoying the patches of mugwort that hasn’t been removed yet. It was enough to drive a county-lister crazy! The search continued.

And so, the foxes and shrikes endemic to the island began to suffer as the greenery went. And so, these goats ate the flora of the island: unique species of Indian paintbrush and woodland star, bushmallow and wirelettuce and morning glory. The Indian paintbrush and the morning glory are doing much better.

Later it was determined these condors suffered from organophosphate poisoning after they were exposed to insecticides used for agriculture. In some regions people will bring their livestock to safe areas to prevent incidents with Andean Condor and Andean foxes. Another sick condor and two dead ones were found nearby.

Daisy had heard of an organization called YANA (You Are Not Alone), that was distributing relief supplies to those who had suffered from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, and that needed warm clothes and other supplies for children, so she prepared a box of clothes that Desi had outgrown, along with wipes and diapers. People are too.
