If you haven’t yet embraced the theory or practice of birthday birds, I recommend that, next time your special day rolls around, you make it a point to pursue a seasonally appropriate species you don’t regularly see. Corey had a wonderful weekend in Southern California racking up year birds in Orange and Los Angeles Counties.

Dear Senator Murray, I have read articles in the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times about the chimpanzees at Holloman Air Force Base. This is a matter of human compassion to prevent the further suffering of animals that have already served this species in prior experiments.

Where the skilled spotter finds needles in haystacks and picks out rarities from more plentiful species. Having never birded west of Arizona, there were many bird experiences I was looking forward to, but chief among those was the opportunity to get offshore aboard the Grande to see what was hiding beyond that blue horizon.
