Perhaps the best experience of the two days I spend offshore was not a bird, but a mammal. As it was when a small pod of Gervais’ Beaked Whales, small whales that look like bulked up Bottlenosed Dolphins tolerated our approach and allowed us to have a surreal experience with this mysterious marine mammal.

Galápagos: A Natural History, Second Edition by John Kricher and Kevin Loughlin gives the traveling naturalist the tools needed to fully appreciate and experience the Galápagos Islands. The book’s twelve chapters can be divided into groups of 5, 5, 1 and 1. I wish I had read this book. They complement Kricher’s text.,

There were three other small groups staying there and after dinner we all drove 40 minutes to the cliffs. I can hardly begin to describe the surreal experience that unfolded before me. It is truly a magical place, an experience like none other. Still, it was a truly memorable experience, and this gives me a reason to return.
