Investigative journalism by the Salt Lake Tribune, following-up on allegations levelled by PETA against the University of Utah's Comparative Medicine Center and the Cardiovascular Research & Training Institute laboratories revealed the two laboratories had used 190 dogs and cats in 2009, all obtained from shelters.

PETA was trying to get the information to find out why the university is buying cats and dogs from a West Texas animal shelter for university training or research. The university also purchased dogs from the shelter up until 2007, Carruth said. I bet there's probably some ugly stuff in those records.

If you believe your dog has a right to a life free of torture and slaughter for no reason, then you really ought to think about extending that right to mice, rats, chickens and fish. While visiting another set of children who have a lizard in a tank as well as a dog, the dog is called "he" but the lizard is called "it." All animals except the dog are called "it" (I did a little experiment to see what would happen). I remember that as a child I called all cats "she" and dogs "he" in the absence of a name.

Every day myself and other 'friends' went out of our way to terrify the poor helpless dog that used to live in this filthy run down shed for shelter. I hope that you'll find it in your heart to give up just two hours of your time as these beautiful and gentle dogs are literally running for their lives. I wonder how well that works.
