The lush pastures of the Aripo Livestock Station sustained herds of happy Buffalypso , a special breed of T&T beef cattle named for their Water Buffalo heritage and Calypso-happy country. Where we entered the area, the savannah seemed more like Aripo Ranch. In fact, it was.

There is an abundance of information on the web about undercover investigations, livestock conditions, slaughter procedures, etc. Livestock don’t contribute to campaigns, but agribusiness does.

There is definitely a problem with gang violence, especially in Fresno. It's farm country and you have a lot of farmers and ag types who treat companion animals as little better than livestock. Today I came across this strange article from NPR about the area. It's not as well-educated, sophisticated, healthy or well-off.

For the fifth year in a row, I was assigned the prolific and well-known Aripo Livestock Station at the foothills of Trinidad’s Northern Range. For birders who have visited T&T in the past, the livestock station has always been a staple site for several key species that would be fairly difficult elsewhere.

Now – I knew what a Tayra was, and I was definitely aware that few people are lucky enough to see one. Visitors to T&T may be familiar with the area – the famed Aripo Livestock Station. Access is restricted, and the livestock referred to are highly temperamental water buffalo. “Tayra”, he whispered.
