Like deer, seals, squirrels, foxes, raccoon, beavers, birds, rabbits etc submitted by /u/InternationalPay1357 [link] [comments] This is probably a dumb question but what wild animals can I pet like if I ran into a baby one? Or if one was injured? Like my human scent wouldn’t affect the relationship with the mom?

Deer wade into the shallows to munch on marsh grass, trailing fawns behind them. A raccoon investigates crabs on the mud flats. The highlight for me in the inland wetlands remains a Marbled Godwit , my first. The sun sets over the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. Here, birds make up only some of the wildlife sightings.

In New York and Chicago, they’ve been pretty mundane—a White-tailed Deer here, an Eastern Cottontail rabbit there. And of course, way too many chipmunks and squirrels and raccoons and turtles to count. Ditto for the Mule Deer who stood still for a few photos before bounding away.). Any herpophiles out there have a clue?

These eagles are known to take down Howler Monkeys, baby deer, and sloths, just to name a few of their favorite meals. Because they like to hunt in the tree canopy , they will also eat “iguanas, parrots, porcupines, coatimundis, and raccoons.”

We do have a possum and a raccoon that live somewhere on the property. Lots of squirrels, chipmunks, deer, rabbits. None of my neighbors have cats and I'm only aware of one dog owner blocks away. And I have found one small dead garden snake in the street. but that's pretty much it for mammals.

The area has a law in place to prevent attracting deer, you can have a bird feeder, but you can’t offer food on the ground. Also, you can offer bird seed but you can’t offer deer food…because there’s a big difference between the 2 (I’ve yet to meet the deer who can tell anyway).

The structures will be small so we don’t disturb the trees or our resident wildlife (raccoons, deer, owls, cottontail rabbits, etc.) who feel comfortable enough to return to Rabbit Meadows each year to raise their young.
