Stuck in the middle (of the AOU/COS meeting)

Handing out T-shirts at the registration desk with a summer intern from the Field Museum (one of the conference’s sponsoring groups) gave me a good feel for who was around and what ornithologists are like. Like most conferences, this one had an exhibit hall and poster session, too. Oh, if I didn’t have a day job!).

AOU + COS = AOS

After pursuing parallel missions and collaborating on everything from conferences to scientific publications, the two groups recently finalized their merger. The resulting organization “will advance ornithology by combining our assets—human, financial, and intellectual,” according to AOS President Steven Beissinger.

The third argument comes from the Berkeley group. Any buffalo bones from prior to that transition were obviously scavenged. Perhaps we can discuss that some other time.
