Just in case you were wondering what an 85-lb red fawn greyhound looks like from the back with a couple dozen acupuncture needles in him. There are now about 10 cats who are unsterilized, and next week the women at the site, with a little help from their friends, will start trapping again. I've had those.

Anyone have any luck walking a cat with a leash and harness? Tags: Current Affairs Ethics Greyhound Matters Language. And if anyone has any ideas about how to get a couple of pounds off of her I welcome them. She doesn't eat a lot, so decreasing her calories doesn't seem like a great idea. The problem is lack of activity.

Now I have the drama of the feral cats and of course the greyhounds. Creatures have come in phases for me: the duck phase, the cat phase, the dog phase, the bear phase (I was living in Vermont--it was unavoidable), the Canada goose phase. There's never a shortage of creatures who need our help.

Would I ever say I restrict my diet to food that wasn't made from the parts of creatures as sentient as the greyhounds I share my home with? Let's deconstruct: "Anthropological adventure" is an interesting choice of words. But I bet anything doesn't go.

And when it comes to doing the math regarding the way I help individuals, though I never regret the decision to help, I understand that some might say, for instance, that for the amount of money I spent on Violet in one year (I think $15,000 was her most expensive year), I could have paid for the surgeries for several broken-leg greyhounds.

but a friend who volunteers for a rescue group told me of a greyhound event around the corner from my house. If Violet can be said to love anyone, it's other greyhounds. There were 15 greyhounds in the small pet food store, and Violet and Stanley were equally uninterested in the event. We weren't planning to adopt another.

When I informed Dave of what Emily and I were doing, he reminded me that some frogs are fatally poisonous to cats.
