Kirtland’s Warbler is a classic niche species; they breed in only very specific conditions, which occur in only a very specific area. That is a big difference compared to the 2,000+ singing males detected in 2012, well above the recovery goal for this species set by the U.S. this species breeds.

The Mangrove Kingfisher is a rare species which as its name suggests, lives in coastal mangroves. It was discovered in KwaZulu-Natal province by Dr Andrew Smith.

Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is considering changing the status of the endangered Black-capped Vireo : it has proposed delisting it entirely. and it breeds in the scrublands of Texas, Oklahoma, and northern Mexico. Moreover, management to control parasitism by Brown-headed Cowbird has improved vireo breeding success.
