I am no fan of breeders, I'll admit it. I think there are many disreputable breeders, I think they are increasing a bloated supply of pets, and I think there are many purebreds already available from shelters. I also know there are people who want to buy from a breeder and no one else. Tags: breeders.

As a breed, pit bulls have a bad rap. However, they are more vulnerable to being forced into fighting than other breeds. Aside from the breed’s abuses, one finds that adopting out this breed is highly difficult. Yes, this breed is poorly represented in the media. Contact Local Pit Bull Friendly Shelters.

I should have known that birding High Island meant I would be 20 minutes away from a place where hundreds of thousands of shorebirds and waterbirds rest, feed, breed, and generally have a good time. I love American Avocets and I rarely see them in such marvelous breeding plumage, so I was in heaven. Clapper Rail. Back to the Flats.

It has about 140 stores nationwide that sell puppies that supposedly come from "good" breeders (are any breeders good? Some of the breeders were found with sick or dead dogs in their cages. but that's another post.) Not so, says the Humane Society. Among the investigation findings.

Here's a great question I received via direct message on Twitter ( www.twitter.com/mary_martin ): "Do you think that even if Obama had adopted a shelter dog-it still may have caused a run on breeders? Would it matter?" This is why I didn't campaign for a greyhound--it raises their profile. That's what I'd like to think. Maybe both.

Even the most barren habitat shelters enough stealthy, confusing, downright frustrating species to scare off newbies.
