Inaccessible Island Rail Atlantisia rogersi

10,000 Birds

The Inaccessible Island Rail is perhaps the coolest bird that neither I nor anyone I will ever meet will ever see. Also from BirdLife International: In general it prefers areas where vegetation, boulders or other landscape features at ground level provide tunnels in which to shelter and to breed. Atlantisia Rogersi.

Cliff Swallows and Pest Management

10,000 Birds

I know it sounds strange, especially when the folks at Mission San Juan Capistrano are trying to coax them back by playing recordings of the bird’s mating calls. Because I am a local Audubon board member, I was recently contacted by a bird lover who witnessed Cliff Swallow nests being destroyed at the marina where they dock their boat.

10,000 Birds

The weather in Karratha was very hot during our visit with daytime temperatures of 38c (100f) and the predominant birds in the township were Little Corella , Crested Pigeons and Silver Gulls. Karratha is a town built on industry and first impressions do not give you particularly high hopes for any good birding areas.

Melbourne to Beaumaris along the coast

10,000 Birds

The Red Wattlebird, Spotted Doves and Common Mynas are the most common birds on this trail. There are a lot of small sheltered bays along the coast and you can choose to walk along the beach or promenade. On the sheltered side of several jetties I came across small groups of up to seven Hoary-headed Grebes bobbing along.
