O beautiful for whistling ducks! Even in the Brazilian Amazon, I’ve never seen this many whistling ducks together–there were sixty at a manmade lake behind the Brevard Community College near Titusville, Florida. Black-bellied Whistling Ducks. What an oddly proportioned bird! the marvelous birds that await.

Alkborough Flats is an excellent place to go birding and walking and is where the River Trent and River Ouse join to meet the River Humber. Bird hides have been built and two small car-parks and one of these has wheelchair access to the trails. Alkborough Flats sign at top car-park. Pied Avocet in front of the hide.

This thrush is extremely common in urban and suburban Germany and one of the most conspicuous bird species here, comparable to the American Robin in North America. A few dead birds were collected by authorities and sent to a laboratory for investigation. Some birds can be completely bald, resembling vultures.

As our Gypsy comes to a halt, one Oriental Honey Buzzard is investigating the new arrivals. The Little Egret walks in front of her, a dozen Lesser Whistling Ducks flies noisily low above water and through a flooded grass wades one Black-winged Stilt. Finally, the shores of the Telia lie in front of us.

You just have to go birding on your birthday really, because you never know what might show up. Langi Crossing is always a great place for birds, but they do vary on each visit. We have just been away camping and birding and had an amazing time. It is only a short drive in over a small hill to the bird hide at the billabong. Magpie Geese, Purple Swamphen, Brolga and Pied Heron near the boardwalk The bird hide is shaded well and a nice breeze blows through it to save you from the dry 40c (105f) September days.

We had our first encounter with a Musk Duck in New South Wales here and then continued on to the reserve. An Australian Raven was investigating the area between the forest and the coast and concentrating on something that was not apparent to us! It is the perfect spot to have a picnic and stroll and experience a wide variety of birds.
