It feels good to start a post with some truly attractive birds – such as two species of broadbills. If you like cute birds, you will probably like the Black-and-yellow Broadbill. Homework assignment: Is the bird in this video a male or a female? Strangely, there do not seem to be many papers on this species.

We always have our eyes peeled to the surrounding area as we drive along because many birds inhabit the bush and of course we were concerned for the young man. At Cockatoo Lagoon you can take a short walk along the edge of the billabong and there are a variety of birds, but not necessarily large numbers of any particular species.

If you happen to be driving the highway from the North-west coastal highway towards Marble Bar there are a few obvious places to pull over to bird. Painted Finch collect the charcoal from the fireplaces in the area. There has always been a small pool of water at the causeway when we have visited and it is frequented by many birds.

Last week I told you of the amazing birding at Ellendale dam and you may have noticed I shared a lot of colourful birds, but only mentioned the huge variety of honeyeaters that were present. We often add a branch to a water body to help birds get to water and on this occasion it was no different.

One of the more vocal birds at the Boab Quarry is the Great Bowerbird. They are often flying about in groups and the bower that has been built to attract female birds is mostly natural items. The Great Bowerbirds only collect white and green, but they have mostly collected white rocks at this location. Common Bronzewing.
