One might think I had already had enough troubles on this outing, but, no, one more problem would present itself. I had thought that my camera use on two previous neighborhood outings was not enough to demand recharging its battery. (Gull ID can be really hard!). I was wrong.

But there were lots of Northern Shovelers , Northern Pintails , and Blue-winged Teals present, though nowhere near the thousands I hope to see in another month or two. I took so many photos on this outing that my battery ran out of charge before I finally saw the Grebes , so no photos of those.). Still life with Avocet and Shoveler.

That, and 10 days back on the way was going to be a great to recharge the batteries after a long round-the-world trip. I was not sure where this was being presented, so I quickly asked a couple of locals that were standing there. Right in the middle of the presentation, this Greater Yellowlegs wandered right thru to everyone’s delight.

I remember that when I was still a research chemist developing dental materials, I once gave a presentation at that university, which was followed by my receiving a hideous and very colorful plate as a gift afterward. With a picture of the then-queen of Thailand on it, if I remember correctly.

You can hear the authors speaking as you read, you can even see in the black-and-white illustrations some of the slides that must have been presented. I suggest reading a library copy, so you can sample the twelve very different nature writers presented here. Yeah, I paused too when I read that. Some of them are even birders.
