People whoever they are (even the most experienced of hawkwatchers) love Bald Eagles – it’s just a given. In my experience if you show a non or novice birder their first Bald Eagle and they will be amazed, show someone their first Thayer’s Gull and they aren’t likely to gasp (sorry, larophiles)!

The photo blind at Delevan National Wildlife Refuge gave me this close up of a Peregrine Falcon ( Falco peregrinus ). The 2018 Queens County Christmas Bird Count

A falcon-like bird coursing through the wave-troughs? It’s not falcon-like. It’s a falcon. Bob Dieterich arrived and we enjoyed a look at a second Lesser Black-backed Gull before we walked up the beach to the edge of our circle, slowly adding a few species here and there. Week 29: The birds of Crater Lake National Park

Looking out over the lake from one of the many view points as you travel the park, we spotted Peregrines Falcons, American Kestrels, and this young Coopers Hawk , as it flew right over our heads. In the Circle of Life” category, this Bald Eagle had managed to catch a small squirrel, and was passing over the water.
