This year we have continued to monitor the breeding of several pairs of Pied Oystercatchers along the coast in Broome from Gantheaume Point to Willie Creek on the south side. Pink-eared Ducks-a favourite duck

For obvious reasons it has listed under “other names” in field guides “Zebra Duck” and it is easily identified from all other duck species in Australia by its distinct stripes. Their movements and breeding is determined by rainfall and for that reason they are not always where you think they might be.

Even the narrow shade under a gate is a great place to seek shelter from the sun on a hot day. This land is currently very green from the recent rains and in very wet years it floods and becomes a great breeding area for terns. Throw in a few hundred termite mounds and you have a great environment for birds.
