You may have heard of nursing homes or assisted living facilities bringing in dogs and cats to give their residents a little “pet therapy.” But Kasia has kept the bird-therapy program going with other rescued birds, including ducks and chickens that are often surrendered or abandoned once Easter’s over. But what about birds?

It proved strong enough to take the many knocks and falls that a hard-used scope experiences during its lifetime. I’ve never quite understood why so many people wrap their scopes up in little jackets, (but nor do I understand why it’s so popular to dress dogs up in coats, too, as they are already wrapped in fur.

Experience shows that bird parents do feed babies in makeshift nests reattached to tree branches, bushes, gutters, and even tree cavity sections duct taped to another tree. A parent bird’s instinct to feed and protect their young is very strong, and they will not willingly abandon their babies. Bird brought in by a cat or dog.

The book, Animal Shelter Portraits , captures just a small glimpse of what our furry friends experience in shelter situations.
