Today, Barn Owls can be found across both islands, hunting open fields at twilight or comfortably resting in abandoned relics of the sugar cane industry. Years later, a small group of us ventured into some forest adjoining abandoned cocoa estates in central Trinidad searching for a view of this bird. Perhaps heard?

And a few years later, I read of her experience birding with me at one of the larger birding web sites and learned that E. I though her to be a silent type, perhaps tired of flying and jet lag, but it never ever occurred to me that my female guest may be worried when passing closed and abandoned communist era factories. I was nervous.

Corey and I were most pleased to see that shorebirds haven’t entirely abandoned the Esat Pond at Jamaica Bay. But Kasia has kept the bird-therapy program going with other rescued birds, including ducks and chickens that are often surrendered or abandoned once Easter’s over. He yelled a relatively unintelligible explanation as he ran to the car, abandoning his family, and sped to Jamaica Bay where he parked and ran out to the breach of the West Pond where he relied upon the kindness of other birders, who let him use their scopes while he got his breath back.
