Black-tailed godwits winter in large numbers on the estuaries of both Norfolk and Suffolk, and we know that nearly all these birds breed in Iceland. They are of the race islandica , a sub species of the nominate race, limosa. In breeding plumage islandica godwits develop a deeper red plumage than their limosa cousins.

Birdlife South Africa has previously done two of these types of trips before, previously called Flock to Sea – Namibia in 2013 and Flock to Nowhere in 2017, in partnership with MSC Cruises. About half of all breeding Wandering Albatross nest on the Prince Edward Islands. Marion has a fascinating history with invasive species.

The Joy of Bird Feeding: A Book Review by a Birder who Loves Her Feeder Birds

He brings to this book an academic background in biology and horticulture and, more importantly, decades of experience developing strategies for the best backyard bird feeding practices. There is also a major section on 180 bird species that is 123 pages long, about 1/3 of the book. The latter appear to be suburban apartments.
