New York City Park Department Contractor Tears Up Imperiled Sparrows Home

A New York City Parks Department contractor just wiped out a breeding population of sparrows in tons of trouble already, on land owned by the parks department that was supposed to be protected as “Forever Wild.” Still, I think we New York birders need to push for it. Another is in the works. .

Amazing New York State Pelagic Trip

They were: Audubon’s Shearwater – This is the last regularly occurring shearwater in New York State that I had yet to ever lay eyes on. The time of year was right and I had high hopes. Back in 2012, Anthony Collerton, while doing his big year, had a bird that was almost undoubtedly a Fea’s Petrel.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Second of August 2012)

I found the experience of authentically aggressive heat rather refreshing, but much prefer my moderate New York summers! Multiple groups of trogons with young in the United States seems surreal, but is entirely possible in the right place. The real highlight of my weekend, out of many worthy contenders, had to be Elegant Trogon.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Second Weekend of February 2012)

Though Corey had a host of good birds to choose from (again) he has decided that his Best Bird of the Weekend was the one he found because he took the time to scope through a ginormous flock of Canada Geese : a diminutive Cackling Goose at Blue Chip Farm in southern Ulster County, New York.
