Pied Oystercatcher breeding season 2018

This year is the eighteenth year since we discovered our first Pied Oystercatcher nest on Cable Beach in Broome and it didn’t take us long to realise that they are not at all successful at raising young due to egg and chick predation. He last raised a chick successfully in 2016 and has nested in this area since 2008.

Accessibility Matters

The refuge has an impressive visitor center that opened in 2008, so it is ADA compliant. My impression is that it is a fairly safe area and families are a common sight on weekends, as are school groups. Thus, there is a good amount of online information for planning purposes. (I Hunting is also prohibited in this area of the refuge.
