But when a female is present, it may move into the light and show its full colors. Apparently, there is some controversy about whether this species is a sunbird or rather a spiderhunter – a paper presents arguments for both but seems to lean toward the sunbird association. Seeds and fruit are also part of the diet ( source ).

Most of the usual birds seem present, a frog or two call from a small wetland, and a few other expected animals are there too. Threats to the Great Green Macaw include habitat destruction (especially any cutting of Dipteryx trees used by macaws for nesting and food) and capture for the pet bird trade.

On a side note, the bird is also kind of ugly, so maybe the chicks never seeing their father has a certain protective function. Though I usually do not mention this in public presentations, as kids (or fathers) might be present in the audience. So, as a preemptive strike, I present to you the Golden-headed Cisticola.

They look crap but presumably offer some protection for the chicks, though not from each other (see the murderous activities within the nests in my previous post ). He was also nearly strangled by a pet python that he kept. Blue-throated Bee-eaters build nests on sticks sticking out of the water.
