While the species sounds delicious, the nearly tailless bird presents a very bland appearance. And that doesn’t even include crossing tracks with Blue Monkey , Red-tailed Monkey , and Tree Hyrax. Lemon-bellied Crombec … not as tasty as it sounds. Smart chimps steer clear of weird birders.

In Costa Rica, they can take the form of everything from toucans (think crows with giant shark inspired beaks) to herons and monkeys. If presented with the opportunity, there’s other things that would eat a bird too. The Collared Aracari is a small toucan with a sharp beak.

Within Nariva Swamp is Bush Bush Wildlife Sanctuary, a sandy, low-lying peninsula populated by palms, strangler figs, and other hardy forest trees. We managed to see both species of monkey, though – so we were ultimately well satiated. When Nariva Swamp delivers though, you better be ready!

There are are presently thought to be five species of kiwi with a possible sixth extinct species, all of which have suffered varying degrees of range contraction since the arrival of humans. Other wildlife includes Asian Elephant , Tiger , Leopard. Other wildlife includes Asian Elephant , Tiger and Gaur (highway 37 passes through the park and the rhinos and wild elephants can be spotted straying near the road). Apparently, there are about 400 species present, yet 492 were eBirded already (list-building?).

The site is famous for a place called Monkey Mia, where dolphins have learnt to come up to the beach a few times a day to get snacks. And I’m glad we did because it’s a great wildlife destination that merits a look from anyone with a passion for the wild. And anyone that likes birds too! Shark Bay is pretty.
