There are advantages to being a “Pelican Partner” for International Bird Rescue ! First, you get to tour one of their California centers , you get a special opportunity to see a Pelican getting its final medical exam and numbered leg band, plus you get the honor of releasing one, or in my case, two of their rehabilitated pelicans!

Putting a baby bird back in its nest is not always the right thing to do. It needs to be properly medicated and triaged. Most likely the bird will need to be medicated for a few days “just in case.”. Ok, so you’ve rescued a bird. Unfortunately a bird’s nest location is not always perfect. So: When do you intervene?

I volunteer for a local animal rescue so I took the dog off her hands, but since this dog hasn’t had medical care, he can’t yet be housed in a shelter as it could put both him and the other animals at risk. I can’t put him in my home because I already have a dog and a cat.

She was tired, thin, and had several medical issues. On the other, she sounded like she might have a respiratory infection, I didn’t have the right drug on hand, and I was scared to death that I might go down in history as the killer of the birdie Methuselah. She was rescued, put back into her crate, and returned to the Raptor Trust.
