An Ohio-based animal rights organization has filed a complaint against Harvard Medical School, alleging that the school's New England Primate Research Center in Southborough did not properly report its experiments on animals. Sounds awful. Again, work by SAEN (Stop Animal Exploitation Now.) From the MetroWest Daily News.

Are animal rights organizations more effective? Tags: europe animal research drug companies medical research. I just don't understand it. Is there a different culture regarding animals in Europe? They have drug companies that are just as powerful as those here. Is public outcry greater? Are politicians more willing to act?

I found a link to them on ANIMAL's blog (ANIMAL is a Portuguese animal rights group.) These scientists are NOT an animal rights group. Here's a group I've never heard of. They do support some animal-based studies (which sucks); HOWEVER, they acknowledge that much animal research is useless.

They were to be deployed to Ground Zero with 200 other members of New Jersey Task Force 1, including structural engineers and medical workers, as well as other search-and-rescue people. The honorees will then walk in a processional march along Liberty Walk, right across the water from Ground Zero, overlooking Ellis Island. Lautenberg.

I particularly question the use of chimpanzees in medical research. If chimpanzees have consciousness, if they are capable of abstractions, do they not have what until now has been described as "human rights"? From what I recall, chimpanzees share at least 95 percent of human DNA, although the number that floats around the most is 98.6
