I came across this strange article about German research on which slaughter method creates more pain for the animal: the Western method of stunning or the Islamic method of a cut to the neck. According to the researchers, the Islamic method wins. You can read all about the results in the article.

Another product has been invented that could cut down on the number of wild birds killed by domestic cats. The testimonials all credit Birdsbesafe with reducing the number of birds killed by pet cats. Will the people who determinedly allow their cats to slaughter wild birds use it? Three of my eight are prolific bird killers.

According to Reuters: Japan, which considers whaling to be a cherished cultural tradition, killed 679 minke whales despite plans to catch around 850. Here's another direct action and its result, as described in an interview by Larry Mantle on KPCC Radio (it's the one called " Animal Rights vs. Animal Testing "). That's one result.

The University of Puerto Rico, an "1862" LGU founded in 1900, operates a slaughter facility killing small ruminants -- typically goats and sheep, cattle being large ruminants. Beloved family pet Dalmatian, Pepper, is stolen, and after several weeks of searching is discovered to have been experimented on at a hospital and died on the table when researchers tried to implant her with an experimental cardiac pacemaker.
