Turtle Dove , Britain’s fastest declining breeding bird Like most birdwatchers, I enjoy doing survey work, though it can be frustrating. A few years ago I helped with the BTO’s Turtle Dove Survey. This was perhaps not surprising, as the Turtle Dove is Britain’s fastest declining bird.

Several Ferruginous Duck and one surprising male Goosander , four Glossy Ibises , Common Kingfishers , Eurasian Hopooes , a high note of a Penduline Tit somewhere from the willows along the canal, Eurasian Spoonbills , European Turtle Doves gently purrring …. The moat would protect the islets and allow the birds to start nesting earlier.

The United States built Fort Jefferson on Garden Key between 1846 to 1875 to protect its interests in the Gulf of Mexico, but was later abandoned without ever being fully completed.
