My daughter and I waited past dusk to see a Great Horned Owl land in the bare tree pictured above. Corey spent the weekend making his way south to Georgia, where he has now arrived at Tybee Island. Which kind of birder are you? It perched on the cell tower instead. No accounting for taste or a sense of theatrics.

Penguins are cartoons, emoticons, animated films, children’s books (though owls really take first place here), sports teams, a book publisher, and a Batman villain (a rare example of penguin negativity, though Burgess Meredith did bring an endearing attitude to his 1960’s TV portrayal).

I’m not sure who or what Le Capitaine is, but the beer label features a dapper cartoon owl wearing round, wireframe spectacles, a vest and red necktie, with a black bowler – or derby – hat levitating over its head. A Great Horned Owl , the most expected owl species in Colorado Springs according to eBird.
