Lisbon’s Lezirias in Winter

10,000 Birds

The Skylarks and Northern Wheatears in the barren fields attract all four European species of harrier (but no Montagu’s for Christmas, sorry). The unsponsored suffering I must endure for this blog… Those pastries are amazing, but if you are a bit peckish: at the Casa they serve a good lunch too.

Greater White-fronted Goose in Queens

10,000 Birds

Despite my best efforts and despite seeing around 200 Canada Geese , I had no luck with the Specklebelly. I saw lots of Canada Geese – about 450 – but no Greater White-fronted Goose. What a marvelous sight my seventh goose (and 313th species) for Queens was! The morning wasn’t a total loss though.

Birding the Western Treatment Plant at Werribee

10,000 Birds

Most of the trip was taken up with family meals and nights on the town with friends (and suffering a bit in the morning), but I did get away to do some birding in Melbourne’s top birding spot which isn’t so much a dump as the pits. Cape Barren Geese by JJ Harrison ( Creative Commons ). They certainly look prehistoric.
