An Osprey had just taken a fish, here in the middle of the Arabian desert. But there are locations where water can be found, such as on Irakaya Farm , an oasis of green in the otherwise dry and inhospitable desert. Irakaya Farm is one of the best locations for birding in Qatar.

The cormorants have long been targeted by those who fish—or who raise fish on farms—for depleting fish stocks. Fish and Wildlife Service has periodically conducted culls, arguing that removing Double-crested Cormorants from the equation would help support populations of native fish. So the U.S.

Now we were in Finca Tres Equis, a family cocoa farm (if I understood well, it translates as Triple X Farm) and a private reserve of over 300 hectares, of which more than 70 percent is a forest, representing part of a Jaguar corridor. At least one Boat-billed Heron awaited us in the thickets. A group (maybe 4-5 ex.)

Pel’s Fishing Owl, where were you? The Black Heron – besides looking rather cool, though not really very black – also has an interesting fishing technique. In a 1946 paper , it is called “under-wing fishing”, while nowadays the term “canopy fishing” seems to be preferred.

I was at Baranda fish farm, north of Belgrade, following a short embankment without much hope: swans and ducks at the right hand side and a solar powered screamer at the left, meant to scare cormorants with sounds of shooting, reloading, shooting and bird cries (presumably in agony).

Here is a New York Times editorial opinion about organic fish. It is designed to distinguish between two types of farming. Note that this debate is independent of the debate about the moral permissibility of eating fish. If organically raised fish suffer less than nonorganically raised fish, it is an accident, morally speaking.
