India is to amend its wildlife crime laws to protect the country's tigers, a government minister said. Environment and forest minister Jairam Ramesh said that speeding up justice as well as hefty fines are needed to strengthen the Wildlife Protection Act. They’ve Got an Awful Lot of Birds in Brazil.

They are members of the Parulidae family and Horneros are members of the Furnariidae family, a nice example of parallel evolution. We saw a family of three jaguars–mom, dad, and daughter–in the two full days we spent in Porto Jofre. Favorite Big Bird: This must be the year of the Jabiru for 10,000 Birds.

Mareeba Wetlands Just north of the town of Mareeba are the Mareeba Wetlands , a large lake reserve that protects both wetlands and northern savannah. If I had more time I could have hiked around to find one of the star attractions, Gouldian Finches , but I had gone there mainly to find two of my target families, storks and cranes.
