It was an exciting experience, though a remarkably chilly one, as winters in Castile and León can be very cold. Otters may be widespread in Europe, but they are usually elusive and difficult to see. Why the weasel should be the head of the family doesn’t really make sense. Why not the stoat family or the badger family?)

In the next year I visited the British Birdfair for the first time, which turned out to be the experience that changed my life. Greater Flamingos stay at the lake in their thousands. If I want my children to be birders, or at least to appreciate birding, I need them to have good experiences doing it with me. In short, it’s exactly the sort of place that a family would visit even if there weren’t a state first record at the top of the mountain.

’ They are challenging to find, frustrating to photograph, and the antbird experience often includes heat and humidity, mud and bugs. They are members of the Parulidae family and Horneros are members of the Furnariidae family, a nice example of parallel evolution. Favorite Mammal: Jaguar for the win!
