India was not on my list of places to go in 2016. So, I birded India, land of Indian Peafowl , Saag Paneer (my favorite Indian dish) and Tigers. For most of the birders in our group, visiting the Taj Mahal was the fulfillment of a bucket list experience, and they left feeling ecstatic over its beauty.

Not enough Woodpeckers

. “I am not bad-looking, I am just badly photographed”: A Bay Woodpecker (Fraser’s Hill, Malaysia) using a joke from “Roger Rabbit” The pinkish eyerings of the Brown-capped Pygmy Woodpecker (Tansa, India) make it look as if it is constantly suffering from a hangover. Kind of like a diesel version.

While I don’t have a lot of experience with tropical terns, I believe that narrows it down to Sandwich Tern ( Thalasseus sandvicensis ), a bird that – while still quite rare in the Northeast – seems to be occurring with greater frequency , along with an increasingly northward incursion of Royal Terns ( Thalasseus maximus ).

Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve: the Tiger Afternoon

There’s a Three-striped Palm Squirrel by the side of the track, while Jungle Bush Quails are running across it in front of our Maruti Gypsy, almost the official safari vehicle of India. She has grown up in the reserve and has no experience of the environment of which tourists would not be a permanent, however boring part of.

They’ve Got an Awful Lot of Birds in Brazil.

’ They are challenging to find, frustrating to photograph, and the antbird experience often includes heat and humidity, mud and bugs. They are members of the Parulidae family and Horneros are members of the Furnariidae family, a nice example of parallel evolution.

It’s relatively easy to classify birds into family groups based on physical characteristics. We view them as our enemies when they eat our crops and as an extension of our family when we see them at our feeders. Remarkably, there are 59 bird families that have very little cultural significance; these are listed in Appendix III.
