Larry starts us off right with an owl that makes birders drool: I was able to see and photograph many great birds in 2014 but my Best Bird of the Year would have to be the Great Gray Owl , the largest Strix in North America. The experience, the place, and the bird combine to make this my BBOTY. Below are our Best Birds of the Year.

My anger at the TSA is that I think the grope is a violation of my civil rights, low wage employees get to legally do to me something that any other stranger could be arrested for and I see it as bad theater meant to make me feel safe. Turns out that his theft on the job could total upwards of $50,000 over the past six months alone!

During that search I came across a plover footnote in a notable case of scientific misconduct in the High Arctic. Dr. Neal G. In 1966 he published what was thought to be a ground breaking study on arctic gulls.

The open, dry habitat was perfect for it and the experience was so real, it was almost painful to wake up but alas, no Loggerhead Shrike, just a vivid dream of a migrant bird that could make a mega appearance in Costa Rica. I saw two foraging in a rice field near Playa Panama. After a 100 years of not being documented in Costa Rica, one finally had the common sense to show up right at the birding hot spot of Rancho Naturalista! Even if this giant stork wasn’t so rare, it would probably still make it onto the list by merit of its cool sounding name.

I was trying to find that answer for a while and it turned into a very annoying experience. Panama 1004 Just slightly below the 1000 mark were Angola with 998 and Cameroon with 979 (followed by Australia and Nigeria, both with 970), and these contenders may join the club soon. Which countries topped the list? Tanzania 1135 13.
