It's impersonal and hideously ugly and the animals suffer greatly. If you're going to claim that it was good for Native Americans so it's good for us, please know that they had an ecological ethic that we simply don't share. Ingesting suffering can't possibly be good for anyone's karma. Cain was a farmer, Abel was a herder.

Corwin tells the story of the Maasai of Kenya, whose culture involved disdain for and slaughter of lions. But again, he's a conservationist, so none of this is a surprise.
