Bald Eagle Catching and Eating a Blue-winged Teal

Back in January, when I was enjoying my attendance at the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival down in Florida, I had an enchanting encounter with our national bird , the Bald Eagle. Also, note the eagle’s nictating membranes protecting its eyes from damage. If not, it definitely was by the time the video below is over.

Snowy Plover Chicks on Okaloosa Island

I have seen dozens of Snowy Plovers and other shorebirds along the Emerald Coast of Florida, but until last week I had never seen their chicks! Peeping and dragging one or both wings along the sand, they definitely attracted attention. When we arrived at the first nest, they immediately commenced with their broken-wing display.

For only $450,000, we could buy almost all of the habitat neded to protect Ecuador's remaining frogs. But he constantly wonders where and when and how much we should intervene, which I suppose is laudable.
