It seems that quite a few zoos keep Tawny Frogmouths. When these birds breed, this can lead to highly cringeworthy announcements, for example from Adelaide Zoo : “We have egg-citing news!” ” Of course, as a certified cat person, I was delighted to see a Green Catbird near Brisbane.

Pink Pigeons were featured on episode four of the second season of The Zoo , the excellent television series about The Bronx Zoo,* and their story was disturbing. This description appears to be an overstatement though, because we learn by the end of the episode that The Stud and Serendipity have not produced one viable egg.

Colorful + Devious = Toucans of Costa Rica

That one with the cereal looked cool but of course it did because it was just a multi-colored drawing with a happy face. Like crows and jays, they are social, vocal, intelligent, and omnivorous (including eating eggs and nestlings). Toucans were something else entirely and we couldn’t even see them at the local zoo.
