The following points stood out to me: “Metaves, a collection of disparate and puzzling birds recently grouped by the position of a few molecules in one nuclear gene, is probably not an actual clade. A Speckled Mousebird ( Colius striatus ) poses in Nairobi. Mousebirds remain one of the mysteries in avian systematics.

You know the captain’s name already: the Ross’s Gull was named after Ross who collected the type specimen in 1823 on Melville Peninsula in the Canadian Arctic. Curiously, in 1831, McCormick was appointed a surgeon on HMS Beagle under the command of Captain FitzRoy and he expected to put together a sizeable natural history collection.

Some ill-informed American wannabe birder pretended to “ clear things up recently – causing concerns and chaos in the process - but thankfully rational and science-based heads in Germany prevailed and delivered the hard facts in the case. And consider collecting stamps or other indoor hobbies. This may change.

Even collecting one piece after another, I didn’t manage to see the whole picture, but after a lot of effort, I collected enough pieces to ID the Eastern Olivaceous Warbler , only the first of a dozen that will be chock chock chocking from fruiting mulberries. I know that because they did their lake tours with me.
