The Spring Festival – or Chinese New Year – is a big period for traveling in China. In these rural areas, public transportation is still mostly based on rather old-fashioned modes. While not on the scale of bird migration, it is routinely and somewhat lazily described as the biggest annual migration of humans in the world.

The arrival of 48 monkeys on a flight from China this weekend has brought Air Canada under fire for shipping primates destined for research laboratories, but the airline says it is obliged by federal law to accept monkeys as cargo. Air Canada is one of a small number of airlines that continues to transport these primates, Kite said.

The many small ponds and waterways attract quite a few ducks, though presumably due to their China experience, they are extremely wary of people.

In other words, Serbia will take an expensive Chinese credit in order to hire a Chinese company and their labour (hence, the Chinese funding goes back to China) to build a harbour that will immediately be given to the Chinese concessionaire.

A large nearby park, Shanghai Haiwan National Forest Park, seems mercifully deserted on weekdays, partly due to the stiff entrance fee, partly because it is not easily accessible by public transport. This means some peace for the numerous Hwameis … … and some Speckled Piculets.
