Morning Coffee with Eastern Imperial Eagle

Actually, I am not waiting for them, but for the Eastern Imperial Eagle to come here to hunt Susliks – an eagle from one of the last two remaining nests in Serbia. Susliks are becoming rarer: they need cattle to graze and keep the grass short. On some earlier occasion I observed an Imperial Eagle hunting. It is still cold.

Definitively the Egyptians!

In short, the accepted view used to be that a small breeding population of Egyptian Vultures inhabited Southern Africa, but has vanished facing the spread of towns, roads and farms. Finally, when our SUV broke down in Gujarat, India, some three years ago, my first two Egyptians were flying above the road!

Then he pointed out a Least Tern that came in to hunt for fish on the pond as if I would be assuaged with another bird that has “Least” in its name! Sadly, he couldn’t (or wouldn’t) so I had to content myself with just Burrowing Owls , Monk Parakeets , Loggerhead Shrikes , and Cattle Egrets.
