Seeking the Bahama Nuthatch

After World War II, the nuthatch began its long slow decline due to habitat loss and invasive species. Snakes, cats and raccoons preyed on the nuthatches as well. They are the only thing we have to go back to with regard to extinct and in many cases highly endangered species such as this.

The State of Oregon, in 1975 listed the bird as Threatened, and the Oregon Fish and Wildlife reaffirmed that status in 1989 under the Oregon Endangered Species Act.

During the Pleistocene, Dholes were found across the Northern Hemisphere, including Europe and North America, sharing their space with sabre-toothed cats. These days, the species shares habitats with Tigers, Snow Leopard, Bears, etc. If they can survive next to such neigbours, how come they are endangered?
